Website Search Engine Optimisation

How is your website review going? Hopefully you have added keywords to your website title and description tag as well as including them throughout your content. The more places that you put your keywords, the more chances your site will be found by the search engines.

In this article, we look at a few other places that you can add your keywords:

  • As links
  • In bold text
  • On your images

Your site visitors and the search engines look at the clickable portion of your links to help them to understand what they are going to find once they click through. It is important to make these as descriptive as possible for every text and graphical link on your site. Don’t make your visitors guess by using links that say “click here” or other non-descriptive words. Use your keywords in these links whenever possible.

Bold text

Bold text is usually used when you want to indicate that something is important. Putting your keywords in bold whenever you can will help these words to gain more attention.

Whenever an image is placed on a page, it should be given a text description so that when you “mouse over” the image it displays the description of that image. Whenever possible, use your keywords in this description.

If you have a website that has been developed by us, that you can update yourself, you can easily add the text description. Next time you are in your website administration area, click your right mouse button while your mouse is over one of your images, then click "image properties". In the box that comes up, you will see a place for "Alternative Text". Simply type your description in here, and click OK. Then remember to save the page. If you have any problems with this, give us a call.
