Achieve your 2009 goals in 3 steps!


What are your goals for the next 12 months?

To buy your dream home by the end of the year? To expand your business overseas? To double your profit?

Whatever your goal - use the following 3 steps to make sure that you achieve it in 2009.

Step 1- Share your goals

Your first step to achieving your goals, no matter what they are, is to give them a deadline, write them down, pin them up, and share them with others. This makes you accountable... you have to do it, because you have told everyone that you will!

 

Step 2 - Plan

 

When we are flat out in our business, it is easy to get so busy running the business that we don’t have time to check whether we are even running in the right direction. If you are serious about achieving your goals, then you need to make time to plan.

Block out some “work on", (not in) the business time in your diary. (Can’t find a spot for this? Imagine a client has just called with a proposal that might double your profits..would you find time to slot them in?) Treat this time as you would if you had allocated it to your most valuable client. Do not ever miss this appointment.

(And... while we are scheduling things in the diary… in the interests of making sure you have a life as well as a business - stop and schedule in time with family/friends, exercise time, time for smelling the roses. OK… it doesn’t sound very spontaneous, but at least this way it will happen).

 

Step 3 - Act

 

Your planning slot will be absolutely useless if you don’t ACT on your plans. In your planning sessions you will come up with strategies which will enable you to achieve your goals. Now make sure you carry them through. If nothing else, use our monthly marketing tips and ideas as a guide, and do each of these things as a bare minimum.

Monitor and analyze each of your activities carefully - take note of what works, and repeat this!

And - when you do achieve your goal, stop and enjoy the achievement. Reward yourself! You deserve it!

Things to do in 2009

  • At the start of every week schedule regular planning sessions into your diary (along with other life balance commitments).
  • Develop strategies (with deadlines) that you will put into place each month, to work towards your goal.
  • Make a promise to yourself, that you will meet all of these deadlines.
